WELLA PROFESSIONALS ANNOUNCES TREND VISION AWARD 2010 FINALISTS

Tuesday, 13 July 2010

During June and July, the annual Wella Trend Vision competition travelled across each state in search of the next generation of exceptional hair professionals. The state final events took place nationwide and showcased this year’s outstanding photographic entries to determine who would represent their state in the internationally acclaimed competition.

Taking out the titles of 2010 State Finalists for the NSW Color category are Sophie Lomas and Cathy King from Toni&Guy Mosman, Katia Trotsenko and Madelyn Hannah also from ‘Toni&Guy Mosman’ and Lyndall Vile and Karen Hopwood from the Newtown-based Head Over Heels salon. The sensational finalists in the Young Talent division were Jessica Lean and Paige Maw from ‘The Last Tangle’ salon in Albury, Liam Moore and Dani Lo from Toni&Guy World Square and Brea McNeilly from Pandora’s Hair Witchery in Charlestown.

Lyndall Vile from Newtown’s Head Over Heels salon was thrilled to be named as a NSW Color finalist. “This is the first time I have entered the Trend Vision competition so having made it to the finals is so amazing and very unexpected.  The Nomad Couture trend really resonated with me because of the bold colour themes and the chance to put together a style that combines both warmer and cooler colours,” she said.

The individual judging process is not only based on individual cut and colour techniques, but to recognise hairdressers that creatively interpret the theme with supporting elements of makeup, accessories and model selection. The Colour Category is open to all ages and recognises exceptional colouring technique and finish with haircut, make up, accessories and clothes.  The Young Talent division is open to hairdressers that are under the age of 30 and honours excellent achievement in haircut technique and finish, creative interpretation and refinement of the trend by creating a total look.

NSW Young Talent finalist Liam Moore from Toni&Guy World Square impressed the judges with his outstanding use of both texture and colour in his interpretation of the Nature’s Goddess trend.  My interpretation was inspired by natural themes of fire and forest so I tried to incorporate these into my design. I was drawn to Nature’s Goddess with its theme of warm colour tones. To me, the trend represents a beauty that is both natural and earthy and vibrant at the same time,” he said.

This year, the Trend Vision competition was judged by some of the biggest names in the industry – both nationally and internationally. Judges on the panel include; Mark Hayes and Edward Darley from Vidal Sassoon UK, Bruno from Marc Anthony and the Fame Team UK, Hayley Miller, Publisher of Culture Magazine, Debbie Selikman, beauty journalist and editor of Beauty Heaven, Alyson Schoer from Haircolour Success, Shane Crow from People by Hamish Glianos, James Cant, fashion photographer from The Artist Group, Allison Boyle, make-up artist for The Artist Group.

As the International Creative Director of Vidal Sassoon, Mark Hayes has seen many haircuts over the years but was very impressed with the new Australian talent.  “As always the Trend Vision final was an interesting and enlightening experience. For me, the best entries in the young creative section demonstrated exemplary technique, great shape and beautiful finish.  The best entries in the colour category were those that interpreted the trends in a modern, contemporary way with understated styling cool hair and great suitability.”

To celebrate new talent within the industry, Trend Vision also incorporates an Apprentice of the Year award which is open to all full-time apprentices currently studying or working in the salon. Every entry submitted by an apprentice automatically enters this category and the award winners receive free Wella Education for one year and a one-year subscription to Culture magazine.

The judges’ selection of entries for both Young Talent and Color categories will be displayed on Wella Professionals website from 8th July, 2010 until the 31st August, 2010 to determine which entry will win the People’s Choice Award for 2010. Over 40,000 votes were received last year so members of public and hairdressing community are encouraged to vote for their favourite People’s Choice Award at: www.wellatrendvisionpeopleschoiceawards.com.

The Wella Trend Vision Award is an international competition that provides a platform for new and established hairdressers to showcase their talent and creativity by interpreting one of the four Wella Trends of 2010: Techno Poetry, Nature’s Goddess, Nomad Couture and Midnight Stage.

The finalists from each state will travel to Sydney to compete in the National Final on Monday 6th September, 2010 and fight it out for their chance to represent Australia at the International Trend Vision Award in Paris on 7th November.
