WHO MICHAEL LO SORDO

WHERE ELSTON MEZZANINE, CARRIAGEWORKS

LEADING MAN RICHARD KAVANAGH FOR REDKEN

LOOK TO LOVE ETHEREAL CHIC TOP TWIST

Inspired by an opulent mood Richard Kavanagh shared his styling tips with us. “The textured top knot twist that I created for the show is effortlessly luxurious but still structured.”

Luxuriously structured…we’d love some of that! The secret to this bun is grip and control. Apply Redken’s Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray to the roots and blow-dry until hair is completely dry. This will give you long-lasting fullness and non sticky, workable hair.

STYLE NOTE The king of aussie glam, Michael Lo Sordo, kept it classy on the runway for SS/15. Our top look from the runway? The floor-sweeping skirts in seductively soft fabric gave models the effect of floating down the catwalk, and gave us serious style envy.

WHO GINGER & SMART

WHERE THE RUNWAY

LEADING LADY RENYA XYDIS FOR WELLA PROFESSIONALS

LOOK TO LOVE EFFORTLESSLY CHIC IT GIRL STYLE

The look feels a little business at the top and party at the bottom. Perfect for day or night, get the look by curling the hair and spritzing with a sea salt spray for texture and an undone look.

Tame flyways at the top and spray Wella Professional’s SP LuxeOil Light Oil all over for a super glossy and polished finish.

STYLE NOTE  Like a lemon sorbet between dinner courses, Ginger & Smart produced something refreshingly different to anything previously paraded down the catwalk. Cleansing our fashion palate with colour, patterns and texture, the designs reflect the brands playful and contemporary style.

WHO HARYONO SETIADI

WHERE THE THEATRE

LEADING LADY RENYA XYDIS FOR WELLA PROFESSIONALS

LOOK TO LOVE HIGH GLOSS ORIGAMI INSPIRED GLAMOUR

“The overall concept and inspiration for the Haryono Setiadi hair style was to create a look that had a real origami feel. We created a sleek and super glossy hair look to compliment the collection,” said Renya, of her looks for Hayono Setiadi’s SS/15 showing.

The attention to detail and exploration of structure featured in the collection were reflective of the hair style. The key to the structured look is gel – Wella’s Sculpt Force was used for this look. Apply the gel layer by layer combing to create a gelled pony tail at the nape of the neck. Repeat step with each side of the hair, layering product and combing to create one sleek pony tail.

STYLE NOTE The muted tones of the collection let the craft in the garments shine, however culture’s personal favourite part of the collection came courtesy of the oversized brushstroke print present in a smattering of the gorgeous garments.

WHO ONE FELL SWOOP

WHERE THE BOX

LEADING MAN JON PILITANO AT HEADCASE HAIR FOR REDKEN

LOOK TO LOVE CITY SLICKER

“The directional look that I created was defined by the high-shine, contoured waves.”

Start with dry hair and create an off-centre part. Apply Stand Touch Extreme Gel liberally to the front section and sides of hair, through to roots. Comb the front section forward and around to each side, tucking behind the ears and securing with clips to hold. Pull out a small section hair on one side to create a cascade in front of the ear. Layer nourishing All Soft Argan-6 Oil with Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist through the back section of hair and use fingers to comb through and create a natural, textured effect. Finish the gelled front section with a spray of Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray for ultimate humidity-resistant hold and enhanced shine.

STYLE NOTE White on! We’re loving the abundance of white seen throughout One Fell Swoop’s collection, the perfect catalyst for angelic inspiration this coming season…

WHO JAYSON BRUNSDON

WHERE THE RUNWAY

LEADING MAN RICHARD KAVANAGH FOR REDKEN

LOOK TO LOVE ANDROGYNOUSLY PRETTY

“The French Pleat I created pays homage to the 50s but the overall textured look was inspired by the 90s supermodels.”

Apply Redken’s Cerafil Dense FX and layer with their Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam in fine hair, or their Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spry and  Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam in medium/course hair.

To create texturised fullness blow-dry hair with a high heat setting until completely dry. Push the hair back off the face and pull back the sides of hair to the centre back, fold and pin into a French Pleat. Pull out small sections of hair around the hairline to frame the face and fix with a light spray of Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray for lasting hold.

STYLE NOTE Mad Men for the modern age! Jayson’s collection was all about ultra-feminine pieces crafted from unexpectedly bold fabrics and colours. Juxtaposition of old and new style is key here – look for 50’s style garments in modern fabrics, and you can’t go wrong!

WHO ALICE MCCALL

WHERE CARRIAGEWORKS

LEADING LADY JENNY KIM FOR KMS CALIFORNIA

LOOK TO LOVE EFFORTLESSLY ROCK AND ROLL

Rock and roll has been brought to the runway for maximum impact, bringing and edge to the effortless Alice McCall girl. “This year we are toughening up our girl. She’s got more attitude and a sexier, rock n roll vibe. She is still an effortless beauty but with a bit more grit and a bit of an edge,” Jenny Kim revealed.

For this rock and roll vibe volume and loose waves are the key elements in acing this look. Apply a body and root lifting spray and give texture by roughing with fingers. Using a 1.5 inch tong, taking vertical 2 inch sections starting from the hairline, add a loose wave to the hair – stopping before the last inch of hair to create a natural loose effect – working your way to the back of the hair. Now for the rock and roll finishing touch – use a texturising spray on the roots and work a bit of gel though the mid lengths to ruffle it up for a edgy undone finish.

STYLE NOTE  The queen of eclectic excellence certainly did not disappoint! Whilst we were spoilt for choice at Alice’s colourful show, it was this demurely cut out gown that took our fancy… Come on, who can go past an intricately cut out pattern in the neckline?

WHO HAN

WHERE THE THEATRE

LEADING LADY PALOMA ROSE GARCIA FOR REDKEN

LOOK TO LOVE UNDERGROUND EDGE

For their hair this season, Han went for a modern twist on the combover, with a definitive underground edge.

Want to get the look? On dry hair apply a small amount of Redken’s Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine from roots to ends. Take a section of hair from the crown to the right ear and start to wrap around the head in an anticlockwise direction, wrapping partially over one ear to accentuate the wrap’s curve. Secure with bobby pins as you wrap and adjust the pins to create random texture throughout the wrap.

STYLE NOTE culture loved the unique layering displayed on the Han catwalks – masculine piece were wrapped around models in interesting ways, providing us with a plethora of ideas as to how we’ll be rocking our coats this coming winter.

WHO ZHIVAGO

WHERE THE RUNWAY

LEADING MAN RICHARD KAVANAGH FOR REDKEN

LOOK TO LOVE EGYPTIAN MEETS MANGA

“The look I created exudes a hypnotic Egyptian theme created with Manga-styled wigs and embellished ponytails.”

Feeling like a fun new look? Get the style by razor cutting a black bobbed wig to create a short fringe with bold texture throughout. Heavily spray Redken’s Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray, and use a mild blow-dry heat to set the hold. If your hair doesn’t have natural length to this extreme, add pony tail extensions. Wrap the base of the ponytail with a small piece of hair from the pony and secure with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray. Embellish the wrap with their Color Rebel Guilty As Charged.

STYLE NOTE Heavy metal! Whether it was the hair wrap, the shoes or the garment itself, metallics dominated Zhivago’s collection – maybe all that glitters really is gold, after all?

WHO WE ARE HANDSOME

WHERE WHITE CITY TENNIS CLUB, PADDINGTON

LEADING MAN GARRETH LENAGH FOR KMS CALIFORNIA AND PREMA

LOOK TO LOVE ROCK AND ROLL RAW

Having just added active wear to their range of swimwear and apparel, it was only fitting that We Are Handsome separate their show accordingly… work-out and post work-out. If only we looked this good whilst working up a sweat!

Two different styles were created to compliment the theme. “This year, the hair for We Are Handsome is very relaxed…a real and ‘lived in’ style. There is a sense of tailored polish or a more raw beauty which applies,” says Garreth.

The key to these sleek, tamed locks? KMS Add Volume Body Build detangler for fullness and weightless conditioning. A little bit of their Tame Frizz Smoothing Lotion and De Frizz Oil to control flyways will ensure you nail this look… because let’s be honest – ain’t nobody got time for frizz!

STYLE NOTE It’s all about coordination, and keeping your separates perfectly matched! Just because you’re working out doesn’t mean you can be sloppy, and We Are Handsome have pulled together perfectly matched workout-wear to keep you on point (or en pointe, I guess, if your preferred workout involves ballet!).

WHO PHOENIX KEATING

WHERE THE BOX

LEADING LADY ALANA DUNPHY FOR TIGI

LOOK TO LOVE NINETIES STYLE BANTU KNOTS

The 90’s was a great decade, and not just because of the Spice Girls – stylistically speaking, it is still the standout era of grungy good looks and straight up cool vibes. Alana Dunphy amplified these themes and dirtied them up with extreme texture.

To achieve these textured tresses Catwalk by TIGI Sea Salt Spray is your new best friend. Blow dry in some of the sea salt spray and use your hands to enhance the hairs natural texture. Spray a little more in, direct the hair away from the face and set with a diffuser.

STYLE NOTE  The texture theme was truly brought to the catwalk for Phoenix Keating with their designs showcasing mesh overlays, pleating, soft and silky and structured styles. The brand committed to the grungy vibe with the designs oozing an edgy and organic feel, with a cheeky midriff thrown into the mix confirming the trend is still alive and kicking.
