Fab Four… Recapping Fashfest Canberra!Wednesday, 27th May 2015 •
THE NATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE IN CANBERRA PROVED TO BE THE IDEAL LOCATION FOR THE THIRTY STRONG PACK OF DESIGNERS AND THEIR MODELS TO STRUT THEIR STUFF DOWN FASHION’S NEWEST RUNWAY. FASHFEST SHINED A MUCH NEEDED SPOTLIGHT ON THE CITY OF CANBERRA’S DIVERSE LOCAL DESIGN TALENT AND, FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, INCLUDED INTERSTATE AND INTERNATIONAL DESIGNERS AMONGST THE 2015 ROSTER OF TALENT. BY KATHRYN DI CARLO.
The fashion didn’t stop after the lights of the last runway show were turned off, with the fifth day giving anyone and everyone the opportunity to check out runway designs up close and personal as well as giving fashionista’s the opportunity to snatch up wares directly from the runway!
No limits on creativity shown in the hair and makeup creativity made for exceptionally exciting (and let’s face it, straight up pretty) shows! In classic culture style, we picked our top hair and makeup make-up moments from each of the nights.

LOOK 1: CAN DO UP DO
As seen at Little Jane Lane
Imagine, if you will, a parade of Ariana Grande wannabe’s strutting their stuff down the runway with their hair pulled into cute-as-a-button half up styles. Big bows and bouncy curls dominated the do’, complementing the the pastel palate and girly chic feel.
The key to the feminine and flawless makeup is keeping it minimal. Peachy cheeks and a matching bold lip are a prefect match in makeup heaven. It all added to the overall whimsical and enchanted feel the label brought to the runway.
LOOK 2: BRING ON THE BASKET
AS SEEN AT HANA
Intricate basket weaving, bronze face adornments, bold makeup and busy prints were all part of the Hana collection look. There was so much going on – but it worked, and worked well. Proving themselves masters of the tricky art of mismatch, Hana proved themselves to be a fantastic source of on trend inspiration for hair, beauty and inspiration.
The key to acing the basket weave (and yes we just made that up, but it totally works)? Practice, more practice and a great deal of patience! Don’t rush it or you may just end up looking like a basket case!
LOOK 3: SPORTS LUXE LOVIN’
AS SEEN AT RED CORNER
In true breaking the mould style, Red Corner took to the catwalk to showcase their boxing gear. A sports-luxe high twisted pony secured to the front gave the look a strong, feminine and warrior like princess feel. It’s a fun twist on the classic pony, making it perfect for the runway.
The warrior princess feel also shone through the makeup. Strong contouring, a quick flush of colour on the cheeks for that illusive yes I just worked out look and a bold lip tied the clothes, hair and makeup together for a cohesive look that knocked out the competition in night three’s beauty stakes!
LOOK 4: PRIMP THAT CRIMP
AS SEEN AT BOHO BIRD
Boho Bird impressed even the toughest of fashion critics with their colourful, easy to wear range that had us yearning to emulate that irresistibly carefree hippie luxe look. You saw it on catwalks around the world this past February, and now it’s made it’s way onto the runways of Australia. The kink is back! It’s time to dust off those crimping wands after the models envious softly crimped, voluptuous hair sashayed down the catwalk.
Pumped up volume is key to achieving this oh so ethereal hair, so blow dry in your favourite volume mousse – it’ll give you hair height to lasts for days!
