April // May 2012 Luxe Be A Lady

When times are tough it’s interesting to see how the world reacts. In fashion, when recessions hit either two things happen – designers go crazy with colour and prints, or they play it safe. Understated luxury was the vibe at the recent global runway collections. The detail – exquisite beading, incredible fabrications - whispered luxury rather than screaming it out loud. In beauty, lipstick and nail varnish are considered two of the only recession-proof cosmetics. A dash of colour is an affordable indulgence – and also testament to the fact that when the purse strings are tight, we still want some luxury and quality in our lives, no matter how small it might be.

In tough times like these, don’t sacrifice your quality or your standards – maybe just think outside the box for ways you can stand out in a sea of uncertainty. Go on, be a shining star! Just like our cover girl, team your vintage sweater and quirky hat with a shock of pink hair – but never forget your Chanel necklace….
